The "Enhanced" ESR60 version number is 2.3 (or
later) - This relates to
both the hardware and software. If yours is this version
number (or later) then you have the enhanced specification.
We first announced this new specification on the 25th May
2006.
Don't worry, owners of earlier versions have not been
short-changed. Earlier versions conformed to the
advertised and published specifications that we released
before 25th May 2006. We have enhanced the specification
and released ESR units with the new spec over the month of
May 2006 to allow for them to filter through supply
channels before we published the improved specs.
However, if you purchased your unit on or after 1st May 2006 we will be happy to provide a complementary upgrade
of the hardware and software for just the cost of shipping
and handling. You need to have a proof of purchase. Please contact
us to arrange for your upgrade.
If you purchased your unit before 1st May 2006
then you may take advantage of the new specification using
the ESR feature upgrade service detailed below.

Problem Solving
Problem
Cause and Solution
ESR tries to measure capacitance and
gets stuck or takes a very long time.
It is likely that one (or more) of
the 4 wires to the probes has broken. This means that
charge current can't be driven into the capacitor under
test and therefore seems to get "stuck".
Remove the croc clip boots and
check the connections of both wires in each probe.
Capacitance values are crazy
Characteristics of some capacitors
(such as leakage or soakage) caused difficulties in the
Atlas ESR's compensation calculations. This has been
addressed in software version 1.6 and later. Please contact
us if you require a free update to address this issue.
Display shows "In-Circuit"
when it shouldn't
The Atlas ESR detects that the
capacitor under test is "in-circuit" if the
voltage charge curve is non-linear (by more than about
10%). Some capacitors exhibit levels of this non-linearity
at low voltages. Software version 1.6 and later can
compensate for these effects. Please contact
us if you require a free update to address this issue.
Note though that if a capacitor has recently been charged
with a moderate to high voltage, the effects of
"Soakage" can prevent the Atlas ESR from
measuring capacitance, this is completely normal.
